Beberapa kasus terjadinya kecelakaan di tempat kerja sudah tidak menjadi rahasia umum lagi. Hal demikian bisa muncul karena adanya keterbatasan fasilitas keselamatan kerja, juga karena kelemahan pemahaman faktor-faktor prinsip yang perlu diterapkan perusahaan. Filosofi keselamatan dan kesehatan kerja (K3) dalam memandang setiap karyawan memiliki hak atas perlindungan kehidupan kerja yang nyaman belum sepenuhnya dipahami baik oleh pihak manajemen maupun karyawan. Karena itu perlu ditanamkan jiwa bahwa keselamatan dan kesehatan kerja (K3) merupakan bentuk kebutuhan. PTPN VIII, Perusahaan yang bergerak dibidang pengolahan teh yang terletak di Kebun Ciater merupakan salah satu perusahaan yang beroperasi selama 24 jam. Perusahaan harus memberikan keselamatan dan kesejahteraan pekerja yang akan memberikan feedback terhadap pekerja yang akan memberikan hasil yang baik. Kapasitas teh yang akan di olah lebih banyak dari pekerja yang memberikan konsekuensi terhadap perpanjangan jam kerja pekerja,untuk itu perusahaan memberikan alternatif dengan memberlakukan shift kerja. Dalam rangka tri dharma perguruan tinggi, kami para peneliti dosen Universitas Telkom berupaya merealisasikan program kegiatan PkM Multiyears yang ditawarkan institusi yang bekerjasama denga mitra yaitu PTPN VIII, dengan judul Perancangan dan Implementasi Keselamatan dan Kesehatan Kerja (K3) di PTPN VIII Perkebunan Ciater - Jawa Barat, dengan luaran berupa Pelatihan Keselamatan dan Kesehatan Kerja, Penyuluhan Alat Pelindung Diri (APD), Gerakan senam untuk kesehatan kerja serta Buku Panduan Kesehatan dan Keselamatan Kerja (K3).
