Lokasi Food Estate (lumbung pangan) di Sumatera Utara berada di Desa Ria-Ria, Kecamatan Pollung, Kabupaten Humbang Hasundutan. Secara umum areal ini merupakan lahan tidur yang ditumbuhi berbagai jenis tumbuhan liar seperti pakis, paitan dan hutan cemara campuran. Karakteristik tanah mempunyai pH tanah rendah, retensi P tinggi, kejenuhan aluminium tinggi dan kandungan bahan organik sedang. Solusi yang dilakukan adalah memberdayakan Kelompok tani binaan mampu memproduksi pupuk organik secara mandiri dengan mengolah berbagai sumber bahan organik yang banyak tersedia dan mudah diperoleh dari Lingkungan sekitar. Tim Pengabdian melakukan penyuluhan, pemutaran video dan transfer ilmu pengetahuan dan teknologi (IPTEK) melalui praktek / pelatihan pembuatan pupuk organik atau kompos. Penggunaan pupuk organik diharapkan dapat mendukung produksi bawang merah, bawang putih dan kentang yang sedang dikembangkan di kawasan food estate Humbahas.
