MANGROVE FOREST AS COASTAL PROTECTION AND GATEWAY TO THE FUTURE OF ECOTOURISM

subject Abstract

Mangrove forests play a crucial role in protecting coastlines from erosion, enhancing biodiversity, and providing resources for surrounding communities. This literature-based study highlights how mangrove forests serve as natural barriers against the threats of climate change and sea level rise by absorbing waves and preventing erosion. Additionally, mangrove forests also play a role in absorbing and storing carbon, aiding in climate change mitigation. On the other hand, the natural beauty and rich biodiversity in mangrove forests offer significant potential as ecotourism destinations. Ecotourism, if managed properly, can provide economic benefits to local communities while maintaining the sustainability of the ecosystem. Therefore, sustainable and inclusive management is necessary to ensure that the economic benefits of ecotourism can be enjoyed by the surrounding communities without damaging these vulnerable ecosystems
